Back to School: Clyde's Edition

Image
I have started to think about Back to School clothes for Camille & Clyde. It is tax free weekend in Virginia starting Friday. Camille and I have big plans for a girl's day on Sunday to buy all her school supplies for kindergarten as well as pick up a few new clothing items for school. And it is my girl's birthday next Wednesday so we plan to shop for a few fun items as well.  1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 This is what I am eyeing for Clyde this fall. His favorite color is orange so we have already secured the sneakers. He asked if I thought they would help him climb walls. Now you can understand the Superman sweatshirt. And I love the Lands End polos...I think they hold up better than the Ralph Lauren ones.

Week Recap & Menu Planner

I feel like we have hit a really nice age for travel with Camille and Clyde. Last week, they attended the Broadside camps in Yorktown with their cousins, Sammy & Paige. Then after camp, we crossed the bridge to the York River Yacht Haven where my in laws, Moe & Neena, have their sail boat. We were going to take a quick dip in the pool and then go home but decided at the last minute to spend the night. It was so much fun and nice to be able to do an impromptu trip without worrying if you had enough diapers, formula, the pack n play etc!  Dingy ride with Moe Found on the dingy ride First Sailing Lesson PJ's on the dock with Neena   Then on Friday, we took off for Sandbridge. We are establishing a ritual there and the kids are loving it! We wake up and get the most delicious donuts from the Sandbridge Market aka Donut Market. Seriously, if you visit Sandbridge, please try the donuts! Then we swim in the pool for a little while, have lunch, and hit the beach. This weekend afte

Simple Home Projects: Organizing Kitchen Counter Mess

Image
I have completed a few small projects around our house in the past couple weeks. Recently, I had a quick moment and ran into Fantastic Thrift . I came across this piece of old office equipment and then remembered this post I had seen on the Jones Design Company blog . So for less than $4, I decided to take it for our kitchen counter mess. We have a spot on our counter where everything gets dropped...mail, keys, ipad, iphones, papers from school. It normally is a total mess.  The brand is Curmanco and in doing a quick google search I found a bunch on ebay and etsy for around $20. So $3.99 was not too bad for a price but the condition of mine was not great.  The mess!  I considered doing something bright and fun but didn't really want to introduce a new color into our kitchen space. In the end, I went with black because it sorta blends in and I already had the spray paint on hand.  And in other organization news, Camille loves to draw and color so our bin of crayons is always out o

Window Boxes

I don't think our home has the best curb appeal. For a while, I have been thinking that a window box may help. There is a pretty long list of other more expensive things that would improve the curb appeal but window boxes will do for now. Michael finally got on board with my suggestion and as an anniversary gift made me window boxes in one afternoon! Woohoo for a husband who can build things! He used this tutorial as a reference. Drilling holes for drainage     I let Camille and Clyde help paint. Whoa! That was a mess...we filled the bathtub with clean water twice and they still had paint on them for days!  Attaching to the house Because of their size, the window boxes would not fit the standard size plastic containers you can purchase to hold the plants.  I did some research online and a bunch of people recommended using garage bags. I cut holes in the bags to match those in the wood for drainage. I used a few thumbtacks to hold the bags in place.  My mom and I took the Camille &

Weekend Recap & Menu Planner

Happy Monday! What a great weekend! My niece Alice stayed with us overnight Saturday. We had the best time with her. We took her to Chuck E Cheese, Krispy Kreme and the pool. We painted our nails and played outside! My sister said she was exhausted yesterday. Today, we are off to Yorktown for a two day camp at Broadside . We are staying with my sister in law and her kids in Williamsburg. Hoping to hit up the J. Crew Factory store while I am there...they are having 40% off fall items right now. Here goes with this week's menu planner... Sunday - Salmon & Guacamole Sandwiches (a new favorite!) Monday - Williamsburg....Michael is on his own! Tuesday - Chicken Piccata , Wild Rice, Squash & Zucchini Wednesday - Chopped Mexican Salad Thursday- Super Simple, Super Spicy Mongolian Beef  (I add veggies to this...I got a stir fry mix from the produce section this time)

Zip A Dee Doo Dah!

Image
Our kids love to play in the backyard but we are limited on flat space so we have never splurged on a swing set. Michael decided it was time to enhance the play time in our yard and we purchased a zip line!  We ordered the zip line from Amazon.com . Since Camille and Clyde are still fairly young, Michael decided we needed to add a seat so they weren't as far from the ground. He cut the seat into a circle and then spray painted it blue. He added the rope and then attached to the zip line with a carabiner.  He also made the steps for the tree and cleverly angled the feet so that they would stick in the ground and stay against the tree without sliding.  Everybody is loving it so far!
